Perhaps Howard Ulfelder is not the name you would associate with the most restful place in Boston, but it's right up there in every sense of the words. Created as a serene respite for cancer patients and their families, this urban spot has a magnificent view of the river, generous seating, plentiful greenery at all times of the year, gentle watercourses and because of its location, a kind of melancholy beauty that might just suit your mid-day mood.. Since everyone in the world is the family of a cancer patient, don't be shy about entering. Of course because most people are indeed shy, and because cancer patients don't seem to have a lot of time for shilly-shallying around on the roof, you may be the only person there. Dreading a colonoscopy? Come early. Come after.

Description courtesy BHA Design Inc: Two interior open air courtyards with water features, one roof top terrace garden with seating and mountain views, one healing walk/loop with reflexology path, ÒOrganicÓ Cafeteria courtyard with large native stone planted walls, babbling stream, sculptural art, waterfalls, built in BBQ grill, aspen forest, ample spring bulbs, resort style lighting and climate adapted landscape. The hospital also has a perimeter trail loop, regional trail connectivity, public picnic shelter on trail, recreation integrated wetland storm water management / detention basin.
